About FaithxChange Who are we? Contact Us Events Links

FaithxChange is a research network with a focus on issues of relevance to young people of faith engaged in civil society. It builds on our earlier ESRC seminar series, 'Faiths and Civil Society', which networked academics, practitioners and policy makers with an interest in issues surrounding the role of religion in the public realm.

It is particularly interested in work with or about young people of all faiths engaged in social action - in communities, in organisations, and in politics. It is a learning network that seeks to support research which can underpin policy and practice in this field.

Themes

In our earlier series we explored a wide range of issues, the thrust of which are represented in the resulting book, Dinham, A, Furbey R & Lowndes V (2009) Faith in the Public Realm: problems, policies, controversies Bristol: Policy Press (please link to order form as before)

Some of the key issues raised were:

  • questions of faith leadership and representation
  • modes of democratic engagement
  • issues in participation
  • questions associated with community cohesion
  • governance
  • prevention of extremism

This series will explore these and new arising themes in the context of "youth and religion".
